Friday, April 22nd marks the full moon entering into Scorpio, which means our emotional introspection, sensitivity, and vulnerability will be at it's height. Mars and Pluto are Scorpio's ruling planet, and, since both planets are currently in retrograde, their effects of this intensely emotional full moon will be laser-focused inward (retrograde generally marks an inward shift of the planet's qualities, which makes it a perfect time to practice magick that focuses on yourself instead of others).
I have been feeling the effects of this retrograde period. I've been mentally exhausted, the kind you can feel behind your eyes. I did use this time to start therapy again, though, as well as a sticker chart designed by my dear friend Clempossible to develop better morning habits and start exercising again. I've really done a terrible job of taking care of myself for a long time, and this Mars/Pluto retrograde has certainly kicked my butt into realizing it! I plan on using the full moon to synthesize all the realizations I've made over the past two or three weeks and channeling that energy into a KICKASS energy spell. I'm going to pull out all the stops: a moonlight crystal bath to recharge my crystal babies, citrus peel incense cleansing for lots of bright energy, head to toe confidence glamours (there will be shimmer involved), and a jar spell to capture and bury all my negative self doubt and exhaustion. Plus, a new witchy friend invited me to her full moon birthday dinner at one of my favorite mediterranean restaurants! Several of my friends will be there, and I'm so excited to get to know her as a fellow magick practitioner: some people just connect to you on a soul level when you met them, you know? If you're in Austin and you want someone to read your cards (WAY better than I can at this time), check out her instagram at @wisewit.ch.
For my crystal bath, I'm going to squeeze some lemon juice into the water so make a supercharged energetic moonwater! I'm all out of the last batch of moonwater I made, so this comes at a perfect time. I'm going to place the bowl under my favorite rosebush and then use some of the rose petals to make lemon rose moonwater later this week! I want to start exploring how to use rosewater in glamour spells, so I'm excited I have a way to make it so easily right now.
I bought some citrus incense from Wheatsville Co-op several months ago and never used it after I heard the bad effects incense can have on little animals. However, I am going to concentrate it near my open windows and doors so that it doesn't linger in the air and get in the lungs of my little doggie, and I'm excited! I used to burn incense all the time, because I love the hazy good smells and calming effect it has on my anxiety.
The jar spell is one of my favorites! I start with my usual salt foundation (going to splurge and use my pink Himalayan salt because this is a pink full moon), a bunch of dried sage and basil, a couple snips from my lemon balm and peppermint plants for energy, all tamped down with a large black stone to absorb my low energy, self doubt, and harmful thoughts. It gets topped off with one of my signature blended tea lights (this one has sage melted into it, as well as a protection sigil scratched into the wax), sealed up, and placed in hot water to melt the wax and boil the negative vibes away! I love watching the steam rise and carry off my bad thoughts and intentions...it's so refreshing! Then the jar gets buried under a tree a good distance away from my home and any other dwelling. If you want to practice dark magic, you can bury this jar near a nemesis to curse them, but I haven't felt the need to curse anyone in a VERY long time.
How are you celebrating the full moon? I would love to hear about your ideas and practices in the comments!
